Kingstanding Easy Cycling (in association with British Cycling -“Ride Active” and Cycling UK) offer free adult learn to ride sessions, gentle short beginners’ led rides, and occasional longer led rides (often with a theme) as well as social occasions.
We are based at Kingstanding Wellbeing Centre (Dulwich Rd, Kingstanding, Birmingham B44 0EW ) and most of our activities happen at 10am on Sunday mornings.
LEARN TO RIDE Free adult learn to ride classes are run by British Cycling – ‘Ride Active’ for total beginners, those who haven’t ridden for a long time and those who can ride but feel a bit wobbly, happen at 10am – 11am at the Wellbeing Centre. We have bikes, helmets, etc for you to use – it’s all free. It’s all conducted in a fun, sociable atmosphere where nobody will make you do anything that you don’t want to do, but you will receive friendly encouragement to either learn to ride or improve your cycling. Ride Active has been going since 2016 and has taught hundreds of people to ride in Birmingham. To book a place go to www.letsride.co.uk, put “B44 0EW” into the search box and scroll down to the sessions entitled “Ride Active – Kingstanding – Learn to Ride / Skills Improvement”. Our Learn to Ride classes are run by Paul and Gareth who are both qualified Bikeability instructors with years of experience between them.
GENTLE RIDES Free gentle rides, ideal for beginners, those returning to cycling or those who would just like a short sociable ride happen every Sunday 10am – 11am at the Wellbeing Centre. We have bikes, helmets, etc for you to use – it’s all free. Our rides tend to be under six miles, at a modest pace, and mostly use cycle path with a small amount of quiet roads. No one gets left behind! Our rides are led by Tracy, Sue and Trevor, all qualified British Cycling Ride Leaders. To book a place on a gentle led ride go to www.letsride.co.uk, put “B44 0EW” into the search box and scroll down to the sessions entitled “Ride Active – Kingstanding – Led Ride”.
LONGER RIDES Every now and then we put on a longer ride. For instance we have done rides around Birmingham’s canals, a ride on the Tissington Trail in the Peak district, a ride to Aston Hall (with free guided tour of the historic house), rides to the city centre and rides around the North Birmingham Cycling and Walking Route. These rides tend to be 10 to 20 miles and sometimes have a lunch stop. Rides are led by Sarah, Gareth, Trevor, Tracy, Sue and Simon who are all qualified Ride Leaders and who, between them, have many years experience leading rides for BC, Cycling UK, Big Birmingham Bikes, Bike North Birmingham, etc. Future longer led rides will be announced on our Face Book Group (see below).
EVENING RIDES We also do occasional Thursday evening rides in Sutton Park every now and then. They have been popular in the summer and we shall see how we progress as the nights draw in…winter rides may call for a refresher stop at the end
